When offices are not needed

When will offices outlive themselves, is physical presence not necessary in the digital age?

I don't think offices will survive 100%. Rather, they will be converted into something else, a more free and comfortable space. And that is why.

Of course, already now technologies allow to work freely and efficiently remotely. And it's not just about the comfort of employees. Free recruitment of specialists not within one city, and sometimes from other countries, makes it possible to find the right specialists faster and create unique teams. Because not everyone is ready to move, even on very good conditions. And this limits the audience of potential employees, if you look for them in the office. This and many other reasons have made remote work a new word in working relationships, and this approach is rapidly developing nowadays.

But there is a nuance. First of all, not all people are comfortable to work from home. This is related to psychology, and to create a comfortable and effective space for work at home is not an easy task, and is not available to everyone. Not to mention such interesting moments that many people go to work to get an opportunity to communicate, socialize and change the environment. "Staying at home" for months, not being able to build a social life on their own at the rest of the time, can be a challenge and lead to a pile of psychological problems. For this reason, some people will still prefer to work "in the office".

Secondly, in some situations, the work process itself may require presence. These are also such subjective moments as "teamwork", when in personal communication people find some joint solutions more quickly. And some specific things, such as a personal meeting with clients - when you need space and the opportunity to conveniently meet in person. Or the technical process implies personal presence (work with equipment that can't be installed at home) and so on.

As a result, I am sure that there is an absolute future for remote work. But it doesn't mean that joint work in some office or other space will be excluded at all. Rather, the present future of work interactions is a rational and correct balance between collaboration "physical" work and remote work. Which, unlike now, is "hard" divided into one and the same type of employees, but will be applied right in the process of work - now we'll "sit and think" together, and tomorrow we'll scatter and work there and in the way that everyone feels comfortable.
