The guitarist of the famous band Queen, Brian May (who, by the way, is a professor of astrophysics) declared June 30 as Asteroid Day. Brian believes that humanity is paying less attention than it should to asteroid danger. Earth is threatened by over a million asteroids, each of which could wipe life off the face of the planet. Yet we only know about 10,000 of them. Asteroid Day will help to draw attention to the problem. By the way, the date is not accidental, it was on this day the Tunguska meteorite fell in the Siberian taiga.
